When designing a paintbrush, several aspects must be taken into consideration when choosing a filament. The main ones are :
- Filament resistance to chemical components
- Good filament mechanical performances (stiffness, bend recovery)
- Best mechanical characteristics value ratio
- Tip capability to distribute paint evenly
The first three characteristics drive to a specific raw material, which is Polyester PBT.
The fourth aspect has been interpreted by STP with 2 products: Hollester and Polysair Multi Channel (MC)STP filaments.
Hollester
Mainly based on Polyester PBT raw material with a percentage of PET material to increase the stiffness, it is the most suitable product for paintbrush applications. Because of its hollow section the bristle is very light, ideal to distribute paint while maintaining excellent mechanical performances and resistance to chemical components.
Polysair Multi Channel (MC)
Mainly based on Polyester PBT raw material with a percentage of PET material, it is characterized by a 4 petal section, after the flagging process, its filament tips separate into several smaller parts increasing its capability to spread paint evenly. (see pdf)
